Science or fiction?

Some things everyone knows are wrong, and some true things sound made up. Mythle gives you five science statements a day, the same for everyone: myths that sound true and real facts that sound like fiction. Pick one, see the answer and why, and follow the link to the source.

Every statement is checked against a reliable source, such as NASA, the NHS, the US National Weather Service or the relevant Wikipedia article, including Wikipedia's lists of common misconceptions. Anything only half true is left out.

How it works

Five statements a day about the body, animals, space, physics, chemistry, the Earth and food.
Pick Science if it's true, Fiction if it's a myth. One pick each: right or wrong.
Your score is how many of the five you get right. About half of each day's statements are true.
After each pick you get a one-line explanation and a link to the source.

How the statements are chosen

Each day takes five of seven topics, and about half of all statements are true, so guessing "fiction" every time doesn't pay.
Every statement links to its source, and before a day goes live each statement is checked against the text of that source page, so the source really backs it up.
Claims where the evidence is mixed or the experts hedge are left out, such as whether sugar makes children hyperactive. If the answer depends on who you ask, it isn't a fair puzzle.
Think an answer is wrong? Every answer has a link to tell us, and we check it against the source.
